ogoniAbout Us

Steven Mark Revland was born in Fargo, North Dakota in 1953. Raised in a lower middle class family of six, a child required a vivid imagination to create “make believe,” as food, clothing, and shelter was a priority for most parents.

Throughout his childhood as well as high school, art and music were his main priorities, as ADHD and dyslexia made it nearly impossible to pass any required classes, with the exception of wood shop. After performing at local pubs and coffeehouses between 1963 and 1976, revland cut an album in 1974, and at the same time….had to make a tough decision. Music or furniture making. Or both?

Over 50 years have passed, with over 2000 pieces of furniture made. He continues to perform sporadically, but his heart lies with his craft. You can read about all of his adventures in his memoir, “simply revland” (how to succeed in life despite yourself.) If you are interested in any of his “available” legacy pieces of furniture, reach out to him. He’d love to hear from you!

Andreas and Isaac Strinden, ship builders from Oslo, Norway, homesteaded in the Minnesota lake country shortly after the Civil war. Lacking a need for ships on the frontier, they hand hewed native lumber into floors and functional furnishings for themselves and their neighbors

Steven Mark Revland, Great Grandson of Isaac Strinden, sculpts in wood in the tradition of his ancestors, with the same precision and fluidity of line that has distinguished Norwegian woodcraft since the days of the Vikings.

the legacy series:
the man behind the craft

In 2023, after Revland turned 70, he proceeded to do two things. After creating over 2000 pieces over a 50 year period, he decided to create a limited edition “legacy” series of sculptural tables and chairs, which he will offer on this website.

He also proceeded to write and publish his autobiographical memoir, titled “simply revland” (how to succeed in life despite yourself), which is offered on this web site, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Audible.

Artists don’t retire, they just gradually and eventually tip over like a multi-limbed tree. As he glides into his golden years, he will be shifting to an increase in “quality” instead of “quantity.” These pieces will be signed, dated, and “white glove” delivered to your door.
